INGREDIENTS

  • 1. 1 cup Chana Dal (gram lentils)
  • 2. 1/2 cup Arhar/Toor Dal (pigeon pea lentils)
  • 3. 1/2 Urad Dal (skinned black lentils)
  • 4. 3/4 cup Rice
  • 5. 1/2 cup Curd
  • 6. 1 grated Bottle Gourd •1 large Capsicum
  • 7. 2 grated Carrots
  • 8. Coriander leaves
  • 9. 1/4 tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 10. 1 tbsp Ginger-Green Chilli Paste
  • 11. 1 tbsp Garam masala
  • 12. 1 tbsp lemon Juice
  • 13. 1 tbsp Oil
  • 14. Salt to taste
  • 15. 2 teaspoons mustard seed
  • 16. 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 17. A pinch of Asafoetida
  • 18. 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 19. 3 Tbs oil

INSTRUCTION

  1. 1. Rinse all lentils& rice and soak them in 4-cup water for 4-hours.
  2. 2. Drain excess water and transfer them to the jar of a blender & blend until smooth consistency
  3. 3. Transfer the batter to a medium size container. Cover it with a lid and keep in warm place to ferment for around 8-10 hours.
  4. 4. Add dahi, grated bottle gourd, grated carrot, chopped Capsicum , coriander, ginger-green chilli paste,oil, salt, Garam masala and turmeric powder.
  5. 5. Mix well. Batter should have thick consistency. Pour lemon juice, & mix it all well!!
  6. 6. Apply oil on the idli container and start pouring batter into the same. Set microwave for 5 minutes on medium power. To make sure that the cake is cooked, insert a toothpick in the cake. If the batter comes out clean, then it has been properly cooked.
  7. 7. Take out the cakes once they are cool down!
  8. 8. Heat 1-tbsp oil in a small non-stick pan over medium flame. Add 1/4 tbsp mustard seeds and when they begin to crackle, 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves.
  9. 9. Add 4-5 cakes at once, mix it well with the tempering. Reduce flame to low and cook until top cakes looks little crisp.
  10. 10. Transfer it to a plate.
